Anyone who has went through basic psychology has heard of Ivan Pavlov, his dog, and his bell.
Classical conditioning is a must for dog training. At times it can be boring doing the research and making sense of the science but the truth is...we have been doing it for hundreds of years without even knowing we were doing it or why it was working. All we knew was what we were doing was working.
To sum it up...we take something that means absolutely dick to the dog and pair it with something that the dog likes. Over time and about 4000-6000 repetitions later, the dog will pair/associate that thing that meant dick to the good thing and start to think the dick thing is the good thing. Dick is good.
So those words and noises we have been making that made absolutely no sense to the dog previously, now has a tremendous impact on the dog chemically and psychologically.
In our method, we classically condition dogs to our verbal markers, clickers, tones, and corrections as a foundation to our work.
Here is an incredibly crappy video of me briefly discussing classical conditioning.
(When I get a better camera, I will probably make better quality videos and I will not sound like a blubbering idiot. But for now, enjoy.)
